VIDEO: What First Time Home Buyers Need to Know About Appraisals
Appraisal vs. Inspection
When buying your first home, you'll run into several things you may not have planned for. One of these is the question of home appraisal vs. home inspection.
First time home buyers may ask "Do I need an appraisal? What's the difference between an appraisal and a home inspection?"
Appraisal
An appraisal is mandatory when it comes to home mortgage loans. It protects you as the buyer when it comes to the value of that house and what the seller is asking. The appraiser will look for obvious issues like big holes in the ceiling.
Inspection
Inspections are voluntary, but highly recommended. An inspector goes over the house with a fine-tooth comb. An inspector will look for things like roof issues, plumbing, electrical and more.
Problems
If any problems are found by either an appraisal or an inspection, there are several options available when it comes to repairs. One of these is the FHA 203k loan.
