Bathroom Remodeling Projects on a Budget

Bathroom Remodeling Projects on a BudgetBathroom remodeling doesn’t have to cost thousands of dollars. In fact, with $100 (or less) and a Saturday afternoon, you can give your bathroom the radical facelift it needs! Here are 5 DIY bathroom remodeling ideas you can complete on a budget.

  • Update the mirror: Many older bathrooms have square, nondescript mirrors that lack personality and verve. Replace the outdated mirror with a round or oval one featuring attractive beveled edges. If sconces flank the existing mirror, make sure the new mirror has the same width. Otherwise, the bigger the better, since a larger mirror helps the bathroom appear more spacious.
  • Modernize the fixtures: A new faucet, towel rack, toiler paper holder and vanity hardware – all with the same modern finish – can do wonders for your bathroom. Try brushed bronze, satin chrome, polished nickel, or even glass for a bathroom hardware makeover.
  • Bring in some color: White walls? White countertops? White tile? The easiest way to mix up the bland colors in your bathroom is to give the walls a fresh coat of paint and add colorful rugs, towels and a shower curtain. Make sure the colors complement one another rather than clashing. Your safest bet is to buy a whole bathroom set together with matching towels, rugs and accessories. Then, choose a paint color that brings it all together.
  • Add a new backsplash: A unique material to use as a counter backsplash is pressed tin, which comes at about $2.50 per square foot. You can find these squares in just the right size and pattern for your backsplash. While they’re traditionally used on ceilings, you can paint the tiles with high-gloss white paint and install them as a backsplash. That way, you add a very decorative detail to the bathroom while spending less.
  • Install peel-and-stick tiles: Normally, re-tiling the bathroom floor costs quite a lot, but with peel-and-stick tiles, you can give a 30-square-foot bathroom a whole new look for less than $30! Make sure to wipe down the floor thoroughly before you stick your first tile. For tricky areas like around the toilet, trace the curve on a piece of paper, which you can use as a stencil to cut the tile to the perfect size.

Clearly, it doesn’t need to cost a whole lot or take a great deal of time to give your bathroom the updated look it needs.

Great ideas on remodeling on the cheap. How about replace the existing knobs on the vanity or medicine cabinet if there is one...

Some customers have also spruced up a bathroom by adding wainscoting and a chair rail which looks fantastic in a traditional bathroom.

The MDF wainscoting can be picked up for about $20 per 4x8 sheet at Home depot and it goes up quickly.
