4 Easy Tips for Thrifty DIY Home Decor

Final Gold Leaf vaseSay goodbye to leaving a friend or neighbors home feeling envious of their creative decor! You don't have to spend gobs of money on to make your own home stylish. Regardless of your skill level, these four thrifty DIY home decor ideas are the perfect way to add a splash of fun and personality to your space.

1. Gold Leaf Vase - These gorgeous vases can go for as much as $100, but you can create your own for a fraction of that cost. Start by cleaning a glass container like a candle holder or a plain glass vase with rubbing alcohol. Next, you'll tape off the style of stripe design that you would like. Using a gold colored glass paint, you will fill in the un-taped areas carefully (multiple layers may be required based on preference). Allow your glass to dry and voila - a fabulous vase for under $10!

2. Chalkboard Frame - Nearly everyone has oldchalkboard picture frame photo frames laying around gathering dust. Why not make it into something more useful? Start by removing the glass and cleaning it carefully. Using chalkboard paint, you will apply an even coat in one direction. Once dried, you will paint a second coat in the opposite direction of the first. When you reframe the glass you will have a lovely chalkboard for writing inspirational words, phrases, or messages to your family and friends.

3. Fabric Art - Tired of staring at the blank spot above your couch or chair? This simple trick will make your wall pop! You will need to purchase
a piece of stretch canvas from your local art store, as well a piece of fabric with a design of your choosing. Place the material side-down on your work surface, and then lay the canvas on top of it. Pulling the fabric tight over the back of the canvas, you will staple the material down taught, creating a unique piece of art!

4.Window Box Towel Holder- If you can't keep the plants alive in your window box and you're tired of restocking your bathroom with hand towels, here is
the perfect solution! After touching up your window box with a coat of paint, mount it beneath your bathroom window and stock with with a colorful array of rolled hand towels for convenience and a pop of color.

Creating a fabulous home on a budget has never been easier, so start your project and have fun!
